This ole timer tried to get me to stay there, but I already have a room in Monticello

Church Rock

Normally this road wouldn't appeal to me, but I know it is leading to a part of Canyonlands that I haven't seen before.

This is part of Newspaper Rock

Every month, the Indian Reporters would update the paper.

Tribal members could come read the news...........

.............if they would pay the two ears of corn subscription fee.

Read this for the rest of the story! :)

This part of the park is know for NewsPaper Rock as well as the Needles. However the next few pics are just nice formations along the way.

Even a place for the necklace to hang

This place has a name but I can't remember what it was.

This mom was trying to get some nice flower shots with her daughter

The daughter was doing her best to make it work.

OK, just a normal one in case the creative ones don't turn out.

This place is completely off the grid. Uses solar and backup generator.

The sign says it all.

Wooden Shoe Arch

You had to hike into the potholes. They had marked the trail with these. I thought they must glue them together or the wind would blow the little teeny tiny rocks off the top. Nope, they are all loose.

Getting Creative

These potholes collect water during the rainy season

Like little drinking ponds for the wild life

First shot of the Needles in the background.

I think the rangers have too much time on their hands.

I think the Indians used these rocks to form their saddles on.

A lot of people were taking pictures of the cactus flowers. I caved in and took one too, but so common place at home.

I had wandered away from the trail and wasn't sure where the parking lot was, then I saw a slight reflection through the brush.

I was hot and tired when I got back. I thought he was just checking to see if I was gonna make it.....he was just lookin for a hand out.

These are called Mushroom Rocks

They don't taste bad,

but they hurt your teeth.

Should probably just use them as a side garnish.

I named this one Battle Ship Rock

Open Range

I was so curious about this that I rode out this dirt road to check it out.

No signage, but I decided it was a wind driven well pump and cistern.
